« back to classes page
Though we tend to think of America as a nation of immigrants, it is also a nation of nativists. Nativism – traditionally seen in times of economic uncertainty- tends to blame that uncertainty on the country’s newest arrivals: immigrants. The presentation explores this social phenomenon by tracing the cycles of nativist reaction in U. S. history. Ron Palumbo is a retired English teacher and social worker. He has previously presented Creative Retirement classes on Elizabethan England, U. S. involvement in World War I, and minority rights issues.
