EMT's provide basic, noninvasive interventions at the scene and during transportation of patients to the hospital and well as during interfacility transfers. This class is 140+ hours of online instruction with in person skills practice days and 48+ hours of clinical/field experience. Students will be responsible for the cost of the text book plus online curriculum access, background check, and the NREMT cognitive testing. Other expenses may be incurred and are the responsibility of the student.
The lecture format for this class will be provided online through GoToMeeting. Students must have internet access and a device that is compatible with this platform. Other assignments, quizzes, and testing will be through the Blackboard and JBLearning system. In person skills practice sessions will be held monthly and attendance is mandatory. There will be in person skills sessions held in Hardin County, location TBD. Contingent on course enrollment, a second location may be available at Iowa Valley Continuing Education in Marshalltown.
- Must be 17 years of age at time of enrollment and possess a valid driver's license.
- Current CPR Healthcare Provider (American Heart Association) or Professional Rescuer (American Red Cross) level is required prior to starting class.
- Immunization records including TB testing must be provided before clinicals can be started and should be submitted within two weeks of class start date.
- Able to read and write English language.
