Emergency Medical Technician

Emergency Medical Technicians provide out of hospital emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical services (EMS) system. EMTs have the basic knowledge and skills necessary to stabilize and safely transport patients ranging from non-emergency and routine medical transports to life threatening emergencies. Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response system, under medical oversight. Emergency Medical Technicians perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. This class is 140+ hours of classroom instruction with online assessments and course work and 48+ hours of clinical/field experience.  Students will be responsible for the cost of an IDPH and college background checks (which includes immunization, CPR card, driver’s license, and transcript verification), any needed immunizations, NREMT written testing, and the IDPH application fee.  Textbook is included.

 Prerequisite: 
• Must be 17 years of age at time of enrollment and possess a valid driver's license.
• Must be able to read and write English.
• Current CPR Healthcare Provider (American Heart Association) or Professional Rescuer (American Red Cross) level is required prior to starting class.
• Students will need a copy of their immunization records.

Notice

Please read:  This is a hybrid class; you are required to do your reading, testing, and online lab at home. Classroom skills and discussion/lecture will be used to supplement your reading and practice patient assessment and skills. The first day of class will be for registration and course information. Students will register with the IDPH AMANDA portal and start their background check/verification process within 14 days from the first class. Clinical and field time will be required and will be scheduled by the student once all necessary paperwork is completed, and the student has been released.
