Upon its publication in 1929, “All Quiet on the Western Front” was greeted with instant acclaim for its depiction of the realities of trench warfare. It quickly came to be considered a landmark in international literature. This presentation begins with a brief explanation of the ways in which The Great War was different from all previous wars. An introduction to the novel, its story and themes follows, concluding with an examination of the life of the book’s author, Erich Maria Remarque. $15 for Creative Retirement members.
